I was gazing out of our south-facing kitchen window the other day.

Naturally I sprinted to get my mirrorless camera and grab a few snaps.

At least, IthoughtI’d got some great shots.

A forgotten card on a long trip.

A full memory card just a short while into a shoot.

Its part photographer error of course.

Whats up with that?

Getting things right in-camera

Since that missed moment the other day, Ive got smart.

Nikon Z8 camera outside on the ground view of front

The pro Nikon Z8 was one of the best cameras of 2023, with a high price tag, but it lacks internal memory for storing files

Adjusting that setting will ensure that you avoid scenario like the one I described.

Why not?

There are reasons why the leading brands dont include built-in memory in popular models.

What’s better than twin card slots? Built-in memory too!

Nogoodreasons, but reasons.

Cost would be up there for sure.

Could it also be because of limitations in terms of memory speed?

I dont think so.

Top-quality solid-state drives are just as fast as the best removable memory.

Theres also the small risk of built-in memory corruption.

Again though, cameras can have both built-in and removable memory.

As a consumer I wouldnt mind paying extra for a camera that features built-in memory.
