The ULT Field 7 is a seriously large, seriously powerful party speaker, ready for big spaces.
Podcasts and talk shows are even pleasant to listen to, and speech is clear.
One aspect that let the ULT Field 7 down is the Sony Music Center app.
The flap on the back opens to reveal buttons and connections galore.
Its design is reminiscent of a pre-2010 website, its laggy, and has some connection issues.
The size and weight of the ULT Field 7 is something worth considering carefully.
So, should you spend $499 / 399 on this speaker?
There’s plenty of power from these bass reflex ports.
The ULT Field 7 costs $499 / 399.
It does state available soon, so hopefully the official pricing will be added shortly.
Firstly, and most importantly for this speaker to be worth its salt, is the powerful ULT sound.
You can have the speaker flat or standing up. We’ll talk about the latter option a bunch in the next section…
There are two preset bass EQ options, ULT1 and ULT2.
The ULT1 setting is intended for tracks with especially low-frequency sounds, delivering impressively deep levels of bass.
The design of the ULT Field 7 is a feature in itself.
There’s a row of controls on top – including the ULT bass control, which changes color, to emphasize how extreme it is.
By default, the speaker is set to the ULT2 mode.
Listening to podcasts is a surprisingly detailed experience too.
It has been designed to sit horizontally on a surface or to stand vertically on one end.
The handles at each end make it easy to grab and move, though you wouldn’t want to gotoofar.
I dont have particularly strong feelings when it is sitting horizontally.
On a brighter note, the button controls feel substantial and are easy to press.
Sony has a habit of using a satisfyingly soft silicone material, and this is whats used here too.
but they make a nice touch.
There are nine different lighting effects available, as well as the option to turn the lights off.
Tapping on Music took me straight to the Apple Music section within the app.
Theres a dedicated tab to take you straight to Spotify, if thats your service of choice.
I think its a sound investment for the right person.
Should I buy the Sony ULT Field 7?
While it may not be the most attractive speaker, it promises to be durable.
If this is something that would get on your nerves then this is probably one to avoid.

My main music sources were Apple Music and Tidal, but I also used Spotify and podcasts.
